As previously mentioned, the traditional exchanges business is likely to evaluate quite a bit in the upcoming decades. The process is already starting. ICE is the first traditional exchange that has started to reach out in the strictly fintech until now digital asset space. In 2018 ICE has formed Bakkt. Bakkt’s major purpose is to manage digital assets in a SEC compliant manner. From a strategic point of view Bakkt is to enable ICE to compete with crypto exchanges. Couple of hours back, the first bitcoin Bakkt futures contract   started trading on an incumbent market player. This is an industry milestone as Bakkt CEO Kelly Loeffler wrote. Such a bold bet demonstrates that a traditional exchanges are gradually realizing that if they want to remain in business they have to embrace change, evolve and start serving the fintech industry. Failure to do so will simply put them out of business. Interesting fintech space worth watching. What do you think the success of this futures contract would be? Will really interested to hear your opinion.
